Skier’s code of conduct

The rules of safe riding in editions illustrated with Stramus Bear.

The FIS 10 Rules of Conduct — 10 safety rules

1Respect for others — behave in such a way that you do not endanger or cause harm to others.
2Control of speed and skiing or snowboarding — adapt your speed to your ability, the terrain, the conditions and the volume of traffic.
3Choice of route — a skier coming from above must choose a line that does not endanger those below.
4Overtaking — you may overtake on either side, but at a distance that leaves the person being overtaken enough room.
5Entering, starting and moving upwards — after stopping and before entering a run, look up and down the slope to check that you will not create a hazard.
6Stopping on the piste — avoid stopping at narrow places and where visibility is restricted; after a fall, clear the run as quickly as possible.
7Climbing and descending on foot — move only at the edge of the run.
8Respect for signs and markings — obey the signs and signals on the runs.
9Assistance — in the event of an accident, everyone is obliged to give help.
10Identification — a witness to or a party in an accident must give their personal details.

We publish the Code as an illustrated booklet, "The Adventures of Stramus Bear" — successive editions (1–4) are handed out to children during educational campaigns in schools and nurseries and on our courses.
